Hello, My name is Morgan MacDonald, I attend Herman Intermediates Adventure Stem program. This is my second year in this program and it has been quite a ride. Stem stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics. This program is full of projects that explore different ways of learning and create one of a kind experiences.

 

      We are located on the same campus as the other middle schoolers, but our school is more reserved. We interact with these students in PE if you are a 7th or 8th grader. We also can talk with them at break or lunch if you are in 7th or 8th. I think this is pretty nice because we are able to make friends from both sides of the school and we aren't just reserved to the 30+ kids in our program. It creates more time for interaction and socializing skills.

 

We have 6 classes a day just like a middle school, but unlike other schools Adventure is technology based. Every period that we learn in we use computers, except for PE which is run by Herman. We use these computers for everyday work in class, like projects. I have finally gotten the hang of using technology more often. These skills with computers will for sure help me in the future when other assignment pop up in high school.

       We work on mostly projects in adventure that challenge us to be our best. They are always based on the topic that we studied in class before. We are usually put into groups because that is one of the things that adventure is all about, working in groups. The group work can be sometimes difficult or enjoyable, that is based on how well you collaborate with your group. The projects are always interesting because they are usually made on a web tool; like making a website, timeline, slide show and others.

 

      What does it mean to be an Adventure student? I think that this can relate to many things. My idea is, being an Adventure student means that we learn a special way that is different from other schools, so that it can benefit us in the future. We have a neat way of doing things here, and all these things add up to a supreme beneficial learning environment. All the things we learned here have stuck with me through the learning process and I have come to a conclusion that Adventure Stem has helped me a lot. Middle school is usually a difficult time, but this school really helps getting through the struggles of all of it.
